VIP Total Health and Hydration offers hormone replacement therapy at our Fort Worth med spa location. We’ve found that the primary reason many of our clients seek our help is low testosterone levels, which can negatively impact their quality of life.
What are the symptoms of Low T?
Low testosterone, or “Low T,” is a hormonal imbalance that can be especially uncomfortable for men as they age. Common symptoms of Low T include loss of energy, decreased libido, increased body fat, loss of muscle mass, and decreased bone density.
Fortunately, many of these symptoms can be improved through hormone replacement therapy. Let’s take a look at two options: bioidentical and kisspeptin-based hormone replacement therapy.
Treatments for Low T: BHRT vs. KHRT
Either therapy can be used to treat low testosterone and improve its symptoms, with a couple of distinct differences. Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) utilizes hormones that are identical in molecular structure to the hormones naturally produced by your body, such as testosterone. The body produces testosterone from cholesterol, so BHRT may be used to increase levels of testosterone by synthesizing testosterone from cholesterol.
In addition to being identical to natural hormones, BHRT can be custom-tailored to an individual’s body chemistry and hormone levels. This type of therapy usually requires frequent monitoring to ensure that hormone levels don’t get too high.
Kisspeptin-based hormone replacement therapy (KHRT) is a form of hormone replacement therapy that uses synthetic hormones similar to those naturally produced by the body. These synthetic hormones often involve kisspeptin, a naturally occurring hormone that is integral to the regulation of fertility, sexual development, and reproductive behavior. Unlike BHRT, KHRT is not custom-tailored to an individual’s body chemistry and typically does not require continual monitoring to maintain safe levels of hormones.
Which hormone replacement therapy is right for you?
Both BHRT and KHRT have been shown to be effective treatments in reducing the symptoms of low testosterone. They differ in delivery methods, dosage and monitoring requirements, and the time it takes to see results.
The exact amount of time each treatment takes to become effective can vary from one person to the next, but most people can expect to see improvement within a few weeks to a few months of starting a treatment plan. Deciding which therapy is right for you will require a bit of lab work and an experienced treatment team to recommend a therapy and monitor your results.
